Repair parts are unavailable; Can't be fixed

I've had this microwave/oven unit for a couple of years and have no complaints about it -- when it works. The unit recently failed and the service tech decided that it needed a new controller board -- part GE WB56X38531. I've now been waiting more than 2 months for a replacement board. Apparently, the repair parts for this are made from "unobtainium."

A Perfect Fit

I have had my new combination wall oven for 2 weeks and I am finally comfortable using it and understanding the settings. It is different from what I had previously; however, it is much more efficient. It heats better and faster, it is easy to wipe down and keep clean inside and out and the settings are easy to use. The Microwave has a bigger capacity than my previous one allowing me to use a 9x13 pan without any difficulty. The one drawback for me is the microwave has a pull-down door instead of one that open to side, making it more of a reach to remove the item from the inside and wiping down the back of the unit.

NO OWNER OR OPERATORS MANUAL INCLUDED

It came with installation instructions and several pages of legalise safety warnings but NO OWNERS or OPERATORS MANUAL. After calling Customer service I was advised they NO LONGER PROVIDE THIS MANUAL FOR ECOLOGY REASONS !!! It can be obtained and printed by the customer. However all 32 double sided pages in fact are 64 pages when printed on a friends printer. I was unable to operate until several days after installation. I also saw no place of manufacture on the product label but maybe it was in the fineprint somewhere to save ink.

Oven runs very hot need to adjust EVERY recipe

This oven runs much hotter than the temperature that is set. We have tried the GE "biscuit test" as noted in your help below, but we have had to redo EVERY RECIPE to reduce temperature and time. I am writing a cookbook and it is ridiculous. We have been cooking for decades and never had to recalibrate every recipe. Is the service call mentioned below free due to this defect? Basic combo unit; low sound

Our only complaint so far is that the sounds indicating that the oven reached the set tempeature or that the oven or microwave have finished their cycle is not loud enough. It's basically impossible to hear any beeps unless all other appliances are off and you are standing near the unit when the beep sounds.

Racks are nearly impossible to remove

It's a very basic oven combination but the racks are impossible to remove & when you finally get them to move, they scratch & gouge the side walls. When calling the warranty department the only solution they could offer was for me to go buy a bottle of vegetable oil to rub on the side of the racks. If that is so necessary it should be provided with the oven! So even after buying vegetable oil that I'll never use for anything else the racks are still very difficult to slide out. Also the volume for the microwave and the oven when items are done is extremely hard to hear unless you're standing right in front of them. And there's no way to adjust them as far as I can tell. This oven came with our new build house so I didn't have time to research. I would definitely opt for a different oven the next time.

So far so good! The only thing that I'd say I had an issue with was with the documentation regarding the install location dimensions. 2 separate documents had different height dimensions. the 28 1/2 inch width dimension was spot on, but I was unsure of the height. I decided on a height opening a bit bigger than I thought it would be, and had shims ready to shift the oven up as necessary. I did have to shim up, and it turned out great! It looks like a custom install. We're very happy with the oven over the first month of ownership.

Overall, the wall oven is very good. Heats fast, cooks well. The oven looks good and is easily cleaned. The only issue I have is that it was purchased as the GE wall oven we had needed a part for the oven's digital control panel and for an appliance that was only 12 years old, the part was no longer made. :-( So we purchased the same oven essentially so it would fit into the space the other was in. So much of what is manufactured now is just tossed out into the garbage when a part could restore its functionality. To me, such a waste. If a company like GE is making this appliance and has a replacement why can't then manufacture a part to keep the other one going?

The oven preheats slowly but so far no complaints. It™€™s just going from a standard microwave to the microwave here. They™€™re very few options for cooking controls. Good oven just very basic.

Had the microwave over oven combo installed by Lowe™€™s. Upon removing the racks they scratched/gouged both sides. This occurs on all levels and is horrible for a $3000 unit. We are devastated that we paid this kind of money and the first time the racks are removed they damaged the oven. We have pictures that can be provided upon request.

Lack of customer focus after the purchase

Product: GE JT38800 SHASS Oven Combo (Purchased August; Installed September) Initial Defect: The original unit had poorly manufactured internal rack slots, causing the oven racks to scratch the oven cabinet sides when removed. It was difficult to move the rack without anything on it, would have been extremely difficult with a hot heavy pan. Customer Service Complaint (Specific to GE Corporate customer relations): Our frustration and complaints lies with GE™€™s corporate response, not the local retailer or initial service company. We experienced a significant lack of urgency, requiring multiple calls and follow-ups with management over several months to facilitate a replacement unit. The follow ups required during the work day schedule. Replacement Installation Issues: The replacement unit's installation was substandard (missed screws, unit not properly seated in the opening). We are currently working to fix these new installation problems. The installation required time off from work. Overall Rating: A negative rating for GE customer service due to inefficient internal processes and a failure to ensure quality control regarding product replacement and installation services in timely manner. Product performance review will be at a later date.

The racks inside of the oven cannot be removed without scarring up the inside of the oven, which has already happened. Now GE just wants to send new racks for the oven, but the inside is scarred up. Entire oven should be replaced. NOT HAPPY!!!

Disappointed - no proper warning of hazards

I am giving this a single star because of the off gases and because there are no warnings about off gases and that you have to remove the factory residue and prevent smoke from a new oven, by run the oven empty at a high temperature (400-600°F or 200-315°C) for 30-60 minutes with good ventilation. Wipe the oven with a warm, damp cloth after it has cooled. Repeat the process if the smoke or odor persists. when you buy a product especially an expensive cooking appliance you should not have to worry about off gases and chemical odors coming from your new appliance especially if that gas can kill your pets and harm babies and people with weak lungs. The need to burn of these harmful residue is not listed when buying I would not have bought a new oven if I knew that but I found out after it was installed and the old one was gone. I think it is unconscionable for any company to not complete the manufacturing process or at the very least let customers what they are risking when buying a new oven that has not had the harmful manufacturing residue burnt off. The risk to their families and pets might make more people chose to just not bake at all. I don't understand why as expensive ovens are why this very important final step is left to customers that just gave the company thousands of dollars are then asked to risk their health and the health of their families for an oven baked meal.

I HATE that the racks will not slide out - they are as rough as a pile of rocks. I am trying to find a product to oil the edges but will not pay $35 for the "GE appliance oil". I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS APPLIANCE. Also, the microwave dial feature is not desirable. And microwave door opens forward, almost impossible to clean the rear inside of the microwave.

Dont use the lower conventional oven very much but use the microwave daily. When microwave finishes heating the fan continues to run constantly for cooling. So it doubles the fan time every time it is used. I have never seen this before in a microwave. Seems to waste a lot of energy and is annoying. Maybe because it™€™s a wall mount?? but not sure. Home builder installed it. Makes a lot of noise during use and ™€œrattles™€ a lot. Think twice before buying this system.

I'd really want to give 4.75 stars. It works really well and is sleek in my new kitchen. I just don't love the controls. Especially the microwave. Since there is no keypad, I'm limited to 15 second increments. I might be old fashioned, but I miss my keypad. I'm sure I'll get used to it, but it's a slight bummer.

Very nice design without sharp corners. Performance is as expected, but if there is a weak spot, it might be the knob used for the settings. It works great, but it's used for everything and I could see that over time, it might get worn out. Overall, we're very happy.

We replaced a similar wall oven. This one fit the space perfectly. Oven and microwave are both larger than before. They cook well. Controls are intuitive. Pleased with the purchase.

Poor quality control

The quality control is a disaster, the oven came with the door crooked, and worst of all; GE has not been able or willing to solve the issue. I have been trying to get the problem fixed for more than a month, they have sent two different companies to replace parts that arrived damaged and they resist to replace the unit with a new one. It is very unfortunate that a company that use to have a great reputation has come to such a disaster!!!!
