Frustrated customer with GE products

I rarely write reviews, but I'm extremely disappointed with this GE cooktop. After only three months of ownership, it has already broken. A major kitchen appliance is supposed to last for years, not a few months. I spent my hard-earned money expecting quality and reliability, and instead I'm dealing with the stress and inconvenience of a product failure almost immediately after installation. What makes it even more frustrating is that everything seemed fine at first. I trusted the GE brand and expected much better. Having a brand-new appliance fail this quickly has completely shaken my confidence in the product. I wish I had chosen something else.

When it works it is great

This is my 3rd GE induction cooktop, same model. First one installed lasted maybe 2 months, was still under warranty, and GE service was very helpful to replace. Second lasted about 3 years, luckily had a home warranty service, but took them 6 months to repair and finally replace. It just turned on and off within 5 seconds. They tried to replace mother board control panel, then the complete glass top, but connectors had been upgraded, and didn™€™t fit. I have been careful cooking with it, works solidly. Controls are easy to use. Only use full power when boiling liquids, otherwise 1/2 power is best for using oils, for frying I may use up to 3/4th full power. I did notice the latest model doesn™€™t seem as hot as my previous cooktop. I do love induction cooking, super responsive, easy clean, unlike electric glass cooktops which stain, and can see burner areas. I wish I could change lights to different color, my husband is colorblind and has hard time with these controls. PS fingertips and control area need to be clean/dry for controls to react.

Timer volume

We replaced an existing GE glass.top that was chipped and cracked. So far so good on the new one. Only gripe is the timer volume is hard to hear when it goes off. I loaded the appliance app, as per the Google instructions, and the app control settings doesn't have an option for timer volume, that I can find.

Very low timer and control sound volume. Could not hear this over other kitchen noise. Called customer service, on site tech said that™€™s the way it is. BAD DESIGN! Makes the timer useless. Measured ambient sound level at 46db, when timer sounded level went up to 51db directly over cooktop. Does not meet level of 65db @ 1 meter from cooktop as specified.

Looks good, performs very well. Fingerprints and liquids/spatters are constant cleanup problems. Easy installation, size fits existing cooktop opening. Cooking zones and sync feature very useful. The WiFi is not very useful - only shows activity, not timer, temps, other status. Bluetooth is also limited - temp only, with specific products. Heston Cue smart cooking has been discontinued and sunsetted, which was a disappointment. No downdraft model available, also disappointing. For the price point, would probably buy again.

Good and bad features

I absolutely love the large burner on the right side of the cooktop an like the bridge option. But we had a Bosch with a cook timer and their controls were much easier to do. Also, my husband used the timer feature while cooking. Unfortunately twice now we've had to turn the breaker off in order to get the cooktop to shut down. No matter what we did the unit would not turn off and you couldn't even adjust the heat. Except for the large burner on the right side I miss my Bosch cook-top.

I have not been able to use the stovetop yet as I had an electrician install, but it was a fraction smaller than cut out counter top and was told to get brackets to hold- cannot get someone else out to help and unsure of support system for it. It™€™s been months and we™€™ve adapted to not having a stovetop. I originally thought it was to be installed by Costco but it was not and I™€™m stuck at this point.

This is a replacement stove top for the one I had for 8 years. I love the ease of cooking and especially the ease and speed to clean up after cooking. No heavy gas stove grates to lift and clean. I love the clean lines and black color. It always looks clean. Two things about the new stove top that I don't like as well as the one from 2017: there are no numbers or lines on this new one, so you can't memorize what numbers are associated with the intensity of the heat, and, the lines outlining the pot sizes are much darker, changing the sleek look of the cook top.

Works quite well, with good control layout and "burner" sizes. Seems inappropriate to have multiple red bars when the settings only allow three bar increments, the control as not as fine as the visual suggests. A definite improvement would be to sense and report the cooking pan temperature.

We finally took the plunge and replaced our old coil cooktop with an induction cooktop. Wow, what a difference. Love the control we know have and the speed at which we can heat things up. This cooktop replaced a GE profile coil cooktop and as advertised there were no modifications needed to the counter top. The only surprise we had was that our 30+ year old cookware, though very heavy, didn™€™t work with cooktop. But never let an obstacle get in the way, we used this as an opportunity to upgrade our cookware.

I have had a lot of issues with this cooktop. Even a lot of induction cookware doesnt work on some or all of the 4 burners. Now the 2 on the right wont work with cast iron. The next day they do or may shut off half way through cooking. *** Update. The GE tech's that came over said they had 67 error codes and a fan failure and this should never happen on a unit this new. Its one year and 5 months old. I have gone through 3 sets of pans thinking that was the issue with the burners not recognizing the pans. So I called GE and they said they spoke to the tech and they would take care of it. The company that came out said GE told them they would not take care of it and the price to fix it was in excess of $900. I called again today and GE put me on hold and then cut the call off.

This is now my third GE ceramic touch control cook-top. My last one was damaged from a power surge. These are so easy to replace. One hour and simple hand tools are all that is needed. Basic electrical skills are required. If you don't know how, get a professional.

A bit to get used to

I have not cooked on it that much to be able to give it a rating. It's taken a bit to get used to it. I would tell anybody that's thinking of buying an induction cooktop or range to make sure that their pots are compatible. You can test them by applying a magnet the bottom of the pot if the magnet sticks then it should work. I haven't cooked a full meal on it yet. I'm typically not an electric stove fan. I like gas. However I do like the fact that I can adjust the temperature on this degree by degree. The very second you take it off the burner spot the pot stops boiling completely. So they should wait 6 months before they send out these surveys. I have no idea what my electric bill is going to be. That's going to be a big factor in me revising my rating.

Just installed today. Easy. Replaced a GE radiant cooktop with glass damage and cracked top. Had induction in a previous home and loved it. Wish I could have a 36", but the opening is only for a 30". Hopefully we will love this induction cooktop as much as we loved our previous induction range.

Awesome cooktop!

I finally pulled the trigger and changed over to induction cooking. My new GE Profile boils water so fast! It is so cool (pun intended) that the surface stays safe incase you have little ones around the house who have exploratory little fingers. I have cooked on a regular electric, gas, & now induction cooktop and I can honestly say I am very happy with my purchase. Some reviews state there is a noise when cooking. There is but it is very minimal in my opinion.
